PVP Students in Action!
Framework for 21st Century Learning
In 2002, a coalition called the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (p21) was formed between the US Department of Education, multiple FORTUNE 500 companies, and educators across the country to address College and Career Readiness for our nations's students. After roughly ten years of collaboration and research, a framework to begin implementing these skills was completed and released. California became the 18th state to adopt this framework in March of 2013. Park View is proud to announce we are the first and only school in VESD to obtain written permission to fully implement the framework from p21. Kagan Cooperative Learning
Kagan Cooperative Learning is all about engagement, and Park View Prep is proud to utilize these structures throughout our instructional day! Students at PVP work in teams to collaborate on assignments and projects while practicing social skills to prepare them for the 21st Century workforce. Park View teachers have had at least 80 hours of professional development in Cooperative Learning, iPad Engagement, Thinking Skills, and Win-Win Discipline to support our kids with a safe, engaging, and highly productive school environment. At Park View, our students continually practice using 21st Century skills to prepare them for the world of work in the 21st Century. These 4 skills are critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Students use Thinking Maps on a daily basis to help foster their critical thinking. Please click on the icon to the right to see the Thinking Maps and their uses to practice at home with your child.
Students at Park View Preparatory have 1:1 Chromebooks in second through sixth grade to create assignments and projects on Google Drive. Our students use the Docs, Slides, and Drawings applications as well as research on the web to create documents and presentations to share with one another and their teachers.
Park View first grade students have a computer lab, 1:5 iPads, and 1:5 Chromebooks for early exposure to technology applications.
Kindergarten and Special Education students have access to iPads for assignments as needed.
PVP Structure a Month: Inside-Outside Circle
Park View Prep’s Structure-A-Month for December and January is the Inside-Outside Circle. This structure gives students the opportunity to work in pairs with different partners to brainstorm ideas, explain their thoughts, or share ideas to build trust and practice collaboration.
