Instructions for Scheduling a P.E.N.S. Day

(P.E.N.S)

P.E.N.S. is a professional development program developed by the Victor Elementary School District to serve the professional growth needs of our teachers. The program is based on the philosophy that the professional growth of our staff is best achieved through quality time spent observing “master teachers” in action. Research indicates this opportunity affords both our beginning and veteran teachers the most meaningful staff development experience possible.
All first year teachers are expected to use two contracted days to visit expert teachers’ classrooms. The first visit is to be completed by December 5th, 2008. The second visit is to be completed by March 20th, 2009. Each day counts as one visit. You may visit multiple classrooms in one day; however this only counts as one PENS day completed.

1. Select an expert teacher to observe from the contact list or per your request.

2. Contact that teacher directly via email or by phone with a date you would like to observe. Inquire as to the best time to arrive. *You can choose to observe more than one teacher a day.

3. Wait for confirmation from the requested teacher.

4. Visit www.vesd.net to complete the online PENS request form.

5. You will receive a confirmation of your request via email.

6. Request a substitute through your site secretary.
*Completion of the online PENS form DOES NOT secure a substitute.

7. On the scheduled day and time, promptly report to the requested site for your visit.

8. *If for any reason you need to cancel or reschedule your visit, please notify the awaiting teacher as soon as possible.

9. After your visit, record your visit on your New Teacher Induction verification sheet.
