At VESD, one of our 5 Pillars of Literacy is Comprehension — helping students understand, explain, and make meaning from what they read and experience. Comprehension grows through everyday conversations. When students retell their day, share details, and explain what they learned, they strengthen the same skills they use to understand books and classroom learning.
Our Building Strong Storytellers guide offers simple ways families can support comprehension through short, daily conversations.
Together, we are growing confident readers and lifelong learners.
