Update on Coronavirus Preparations - March 13
Posted on 03/13/2020

The VESD task force on Coronavirus has been working closely with the county health department and the county superintendent of schools to monitor the situation. As the situation has developed, we have enacted additional measures to prepare against the spread of COVID-19. We have taken the following steps at all of our schools and support sites:

• Increased daily cleaning and disinfecting to every two hours of high touch areas such as doorknobs, faucets, light switches, and school buses
• Extra nightly cleanings
• All assemblies/events with over 250 people have been canceled/postponed until the end of March
• Parent-teacher conferences can now be conducted over the phone
• Ongoing meetings with our health and safety teams to ensure protocols are in place and followed at our school sites.
• Posting flyers with tips on preventing the spread of viruses.
• Regular communication with the health department and county office of emergency services.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include the following:

Contact with someone with Coronavirus OR been to China in the last 14 days AND
• Fever
• Cough
• Shortness of breath

DO NOT COME TO WORK OR ATTEND CLASS IF YOU ARE SICK OR SYMPTOMATIC. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IF YOUR SYMPTOMS WORSEN.

The CDC recommends that we all help respond to this public health threat by taking simple, everyday precautions such as:

• Avoid close contact with sick people.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. After using a tissue, throw it in the trash and wash your hands

At this time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Bernardino County and the risk of contracting the virus remains low, according to assessments from the County Department of Public Health. We will continue to monitor the situation regularly and will be prepared to take appropriate action wherever necessary.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep our community safe.
