Good Afternoon VESD Families,
First off, we want to thank you for your patience and flexibility over the last several weeks. With hopes of bringing students back to campus on the first day of school, we've held off making a final decision as long as we could. However, we must formally announce that we will begin the 20/21 school year in a distance learning format, according to the guidelines given by Governor Newsom.
While we are disappointed that we have to wait a bit longer to return to normalcy, we are confident that our distance learning program will meet the needs of all students. Some of the key features of the new distance-learning format will include:
• Daily interaction with teachers in small group and whole-group settings
• Focused standards with increased accountability, i.e., grading, report cards, attendance, etc.
• Scheduled activities with both synchronous (live with teacher) and asynchronous (offline assignments)
• Chromebooks and textbooks for all students
• Academic support for parents through the Family Resource Center
• Special education services will be provided virtually according to each student’s IEP
Once San Bernardino County is removed from the governor's watch list for 14 consecutive days, we will begin the transition to a phased-in hybrid model. We will start with 25% of students attending each day and gradually increase until we can bring everyone back safely.
Here are some important dates leading up to the first day of school:
• August 10th-14th - Chromebook and textbook distribution
• August 14th - Nutrition Services begins meal service
• August 17th - First day of school
I want to personally thank you all for the feedback that you have provided over the last several weeks. Your input is greatly appreciated and we will need more of it as we work through the school year. I know this is not the ideal way to start the year but I believe that if we work together, we will overcome these challenges and be stronger for it.

Buenas tardes familias de VESD,
Primeramente, les quiero dar las gracias por su paciencia y flexibilidad durante las últimas semanas. Teníamos la esperanza de poder traer a nuestros estudiantes al campus el primer día de clases, por eso estábamos esperando tomar una decisión final durante todo el tiempo que pudimos. Sin embargo, debemos anunciar formalmente que vamos a comenzar el año escolar de 2020/2021 en un formato de educación a distancia, de acuerdo con las directrices dadas por el Gobernador Newsom.
Aunque estamos decepcionados de tener que esperar un poco más para regresar a la normalidad, estamos seguros que nuestro programa de educación a distancia va a satisfacer las necesidades de todos los estudiantes. Algunas características clave del nuevo formato de educación a distancia incluyen:
• Interacción con maestros cada día en entornos de grupo pequeño y en grupos enteros
• Estándares enfocados con responsabilidad aumentada, por ejemplo, calificaciones, boletas, asistencia, etc.
• Actividades programadas con ambos, síncrono (en vivo con el maestro/a) y asíncrono (asignaciones fuera de línea)
• Chromebooks y libros para todos los estudiantes
• Apoyo académico para padres a través del Centro de Recursos para Familias
• Servicios de educación especial se van a proveer virtualmente de acuerdo con el IEP de cada estudiante
Una vez que el Condado de San Bernardino sea removido de la lista de vigilancia del Gobernador por 14 días consecutivos, vamos a comenzar la transición al modelo híbrido por etapas. Vamos a comenzar con el 25 % de estudiantes asistiendo cada día y vamos a aumentar esa cantidad gradualmente hasta que todos puedan regresar de manera segura.
