Brentwood School of Environmental Studies
Welcome to Brentwood!
Thank you for taking a moment to see what our community offers students and their families. It is something I like to call the Brentwood Difference.
From the classroom to the playground, we get to know our students individually. We give them an opportunity to learn how to experience, protect, and improve the rapidly changing world around them through engaging lessons taught by our dedicated teachers.
Our focus on environmental studies is infused throughout the curriculum, allowing students to get a sense of the diversity that exists around the globe. We strive to have our students leave us better able to think critically and communicate effectively.
And just as important, our lessons open the eyes of our students so that they can learn to appreciate and respect the uniqueness of the world’s vast differences.
Once again, thank you for taking some time to learn more about this special place.
I look forward to meeting you in person.

Del Rey AVID Elementary School
Thank you for taking the time to review our website and take in all the valuable information that it has to offer. We will be updating it on a regular basis so please check back frequently for the latest information and news about Del Rey and the Victor Elementary School District.
The one question I get most often from parents is “How do I help my child be more successful in school”. There are several ways that you can help your child at Del Rey. The first, and perhaps most important is to get involved in the school. Come to the monthly “Donuts with Doug” meetings to hear about what is happening at the school and get updates on what is to come. This time is dedicated to parents and their questions.
Join the Del Rey Booster club and help plan exciting activities and events for Del Rey students and families. Become an active member of School Site Council or English Language Advisory Committee so you can lend your voice and help make a variety of decisions about the school and what priorities need to be addressed each.
And finally, become a volunteer at the school or in your child’s classroom. Research is clear that the more you become involved in the school the more succession your children will be at school.
At Del Rey, we welcome parents on campus each and every day. Volunteer training takes place monthly after the “Donuts with Doug” or can be scheduled with our School Safety Coordination on an as needed basis.
Thank you for allowing us to work with and educate your child. There is not greater responsibility than the shaping of the minds of tomorrow. We take that responsibility very seriously at Del Rey and work hard to make every child successful… Del Rey is a great place to be and learn.

Our Focus
Del Rey’s school-wide focus is AVID. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. We are committed to providing a high-quality education that promotes success in school and prepares them for college and career. AVID is not a program or a book that can be read but a philosophy shared by all staff member that all students can and will succeed at high levels each and every day. Every teacher is an AVID trained teacher; every classroom is and AVID classroom; every student, TK – 6th grade, is an AVID student.
The Four Components of AVID Are:
Student Success Skills – encompassing communication skills (Listening, speaking, writing), self-advocacy skills, note-taking strategies, critical thinking and study skill
Organizational Skills – Both mental and physical; students learn to use organizational tools, as well as learn and practice skill around time management and goal-setting.
WICOR lessons – emphasize instruction on writing to learn, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and ready to learn in all content areas
Partnerships – Among students, classrooms, grade levels, schools, feeder patterns, families, and communities.
If you were to walk the classrooms of Del Rey you would see the teacher implementing the core components almost on a daily basis. Students who attend Del Rey can expect to leave the school with all the tools and skills to be successful in a global society.

Mountain View Montessori
Welcome to Mountain View Montessori!
The staff and I are excited to immerse you and your family into the wonderful world of Montessori. Our mission is to provide a child-centered learning environment consistent with Dr. Maria Montessori’s vision for students, in transitional kindergarten through the sixth grade. We focus on the developing the whole child, going beyond academics to also nurture social, emotional, and practical life skills needed for students to be successful and productive citizens in the 21st century.
In addition to quality instruction aligned to the Montessori Method and Common Core State Standards (CCSS), we offer all of our students expanded learning opportunities that tap into their natural curiosity and desire to explore. Our elective programs include STEM/STEAM-based learning such as FIRST Lego League Jr. (FLL Jr.) projects, stop motion animation, and engineering, balanced with cultural-based electives such as art, music, and dance. Our Upper Elementary students (grades 4-6) also have the opportunity to participate in our after school FIRST Lego League (FLL) competitive robotics program. Throughout the year, we also extend opportunities for students to showcase their talents through school-wide events such as our spelling bee, Young Authors competition, Junior Olympics, and our annual talent show.
Even in our modern age, our staff still believes that “it takes a village to raise a child.” Students are more successful when families and schools are partners in education.

Our Focus
The mission of Mountain View Montessori Charter School (MVMCS) is to provide a child-centered learning environment consistent with Dr. Maria Montessori’s (b. 1870-d. 1952) vision for students, in transitional kindergarten through the sixth grade. In the early 1900s, Dr. Montessori envisioned a system of education whereby students, motivated by their own innate desire for knowledge, become life-long learners. Since 1907, her educational theories have been proven successful in schools worldwide and with students with a variety of backgrounds and abilities. This legacy continues in the 21st century through schools such as MVMCS.
Key Characteristics of Mountain View's program:
- Instruction which emphasizes students working independently and being responsible for their learning
- “Hands on” learning through multi-sensory instructional materials (more emphasis in TK-3)
- Active learning during work periods
- An environment which encourages self-discipline and being responsible for one’s actions
- Multi-cultural education and community service
- Multi-age groupings (two grades) within one class
Park View Prep School of 21st Century Learning
Welcome to Park View!
Park View Prep is a school of 21st Century Learning. We have made it our mission to prepare our Panthers for the job market of tomorrow by teaching California State Standards through the 4 C's: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. These are the skills identified by the business community, education leaders, and policy makers to best prepare our students for a globalized workforce.
When you are on the Park View campus you will see students engaged in these 21st Century skills in classrooms set up to practice cooperative learning. The instructional model gives the students the much needed opportunities to build knowledge, process information, learn procedures, think critically, and present information through interacting with others. Weekly team building and class building in our classes also make our rooms safe spaces for students to openly share ideas. Not only do the students experience collaboration - the Park View parents can experience it as well through attendance at monthly School Site Council (SSC) meetings and or English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meetings! All staff meetings are cooperative meetings as well to keep our teacher's skills sharp in their classrooms.
Students and staff are always encouraged to show their PAWS: Pride, Attitude, Work Ethic, and Safety whenever they are on campus or representing Park View Prep. In times when are PAWS are seen - WE CELEBRATE!! In times when our PAWS are not seen, we intervene and teach. PAWS are an essential part of being a Park View Panther.
I am extremely excited to begin my journey with the students, parents, guardians, and staff of Park View Preparatory. I want to thank you for allowing the entire Park View Staff to be a part of your child's educational journey.
Sincerely,
Brandon Spalding

Our Focus
Park View Preparatory focuses on 21st Century Learning, emphasizing skills like communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. In 2013, California adopted the Partnership for 21st Century Learning framework, which Park View Preparatory implemented to prepare students for college and careers. We aim for full implementation by 2020, incorporating cooperative and project-based learning. For more information, visit www.p21.org.

The Framework
Learning and Innovation Skills
The 21st Century Skills, or Learning and Innovation Skills, are "increasingly are being recognized as the skills that separate students who are prepared for increasingly complex life and work environments in the 21st century, and those who are not." (from p21.org)
These skills are commonly known in education as the 4 Cs: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration.
Park View supports the application of these skills through:
1. Thinking Maps- Graphic organizers used for different thought processes
2. Cooperative Learning- Model to practice skills to work with others
3. Creativity Fridays- One hour each week for students to work on projects which include media, technology, careers curriculum, the arts (fine, performing, music, etc.) or other activities which foster creativity
Life and Career Skills
Park View has many approaches to instilling Life and Career Skills. These skills include not only skills for the workplace (flexibility, adaptability, initiative, accountability) but also social-emotional skills. Below are some ways our school supports the growth of our students in this area:
1. Cooperative Learning- builds social skills, communication skills, decision making, and helps students understand their roles in projects and assignments when working with others.
2. Win-Win Discipline- helps students be reflective, self accountable, and understand how to gain learned responsibility from their choices.
3. PBIS- explicitly teaches and reinforces appropriate actions and interactions with others.
Information, Media, and Technology Skills
Park View Prep ensures our students have exposure and practice with Information, Media, and Technology Skills. Puesta Del Sol School of College and Career Readiness
Welcome to Puesta del Sol!
It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I introduce myself to you as the principal at Puesta Del Sol Elementary School. Puesta Del Sol has a rich and proud history in VESD, and I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead the PDS team and school community.
My name is Tiffany Sutton and I have dedicated my career to educating children. After teaching in Los Angeles for over ten years, I relocated to Victorville, CA in 2012. I have served as a teacher and principal in the High Desert for the past nine years, and am now joining the Puesta Del Sol community as your child’s principal.
My top priority is to ensure your child is learning in a safe and nurturing school environment. I truly believe that educating our children is a team effort that requires a partnership between teachers, parents and school leadership. As the old African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I am excited to see your children through your eyes and cannot wait to share with you the great things they do throughout their days here at Puesta Del Sol. Please know that I am also here for you as parents, should you need any help navigating any aspect of your child’s education.
At PDS, we live by five pillars:
I will work diligently to ensure that your children know what these mean as a learner and a contributing member of our school community.
This year promises to be successful as we continue to regain a sense of normalcy. You can expect that I will continue to work with teachers to ensure that your child(ren) has the tools and support that they need to be most successful. In addition to working with students, I’m excited to develop a partnership with you. I assure you that my door is always open, and I welcome your positive contributions to our learning community. I hope that our collaboration will foster the absolute best learning experience for your student. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns that you may have as the school year progresses.

Sixth Street Prep
Welcome to our Sixth Street Prep!
At Sixth Street Prep School, we incorporate many strategies to encourage and challenge students to develop their full potential. Without a doubt, the success of SSPS is due to the dedication and devotion of our staff, students and families. The saying, “it takes a village” embodies our belief system at Sixth Street Prep School (SSPS).
All of our teachers collaborate with each other to determine and create programs, initiatives and curriculum to best meet the needs of our students. Our routinely monitored data and annual test scores drive our planning and instruction as we continue to see high levels of student success. Results on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) demonstrates that SSPS students are meeting or exceeding standards at a high rate. SSPS staff recognizes that students are more likely to be engaged and on-task when lessons offer real-life application for the learner.
As a result, lessons are designed to create powerful learning experiences that will motivate students towards high standards of achievement. Such learning experiences engage student curiosity, originality, and interpersonal relationships.
As a staff, we have unanimously agreed to extend the school day by 45 minutes, Mondays-Thursdays. This provides all students with an extra 180 educational minutes each week.
Through all of these means, SSPS creates a learning community that encourages students to realize they are capable of high levels of competence, performance and knowledge. The learning community is designed to foster positive changes in the lives of students, parents/guardians, teachers, staff and community. Our goal is to create an environment inside of our learning community in which students take responsibility for their own learning and maximize personal strengths which will enable them to select from a variety of career opportunities and to be successful in the workforce.
Our students and families know the importance of a solid educational foundation. Students at SSPS set both long and short-term goals for themselves and work to achieve them. They have learned the significance of respect, hard-work and community. Our parents and families support their education, and work with their students teaching them the importance of hard work and responsibility. Sixth Street Prep School is truly a family for our students.
Thank you for the opportunity to let us share with you the story of our school and community.
